Open Doors Aren't Disloyalty
I took a new position at my job. It's a lateral move, and my hours are changing. I'm going from Monday through Friday to Tuesday through Saturday, which means I'm giving up my weekends off. I'm not going to pretend I'm totally at peace with that. I'm not sure it's the right decision, and I'm struggling with it.
So let me tell you why I said yes.
One, I want this position. I can't build a resume without doing new things. The workload sounds lighter, and I'll be working with our top users. It's a nasty trade-off, and I'm hoping what I learn will be worth it.
Here's the part that's hard to say out loud. I made myself and my kids a promise that I would not work weird shifts, multiple jobs, or weekends again. Being present for my whole house is everything to me. And yet, here I am. I'm not going to dress that up. Sometimes you make a choice that bends a promise because you're trying to build something bigger, and you carry the weight of it anyway.
I've also made myself open to opportunities outside of my employer. Not because I want to leave, but because I need to be realistic about where I stand. My kids are getting older, and I need to be open to positions that fit our life. If nothing fits, that's fine. I just don't want to close myself off from any openings.

I used to think doing this was a bad thing. Now I see it's how a person grows. It doesn't mean anything horrible about where I am. It shows I'm willing to keep growing, learning, and gaining skills.
And the blog? Honestly, I still feel like it's the early days. My viewer base is slowly growing, but it's not where I imagined when I started. In the beginning I felt more motivated to share. Now I wonder if I'm reaching anyone in real life, or if this is just something I do for me. I do hope I'm reaching people.
When I started this blog and my crafting journey, it was just that: something to fill my time and let me find me again. Now I'm manifesting the day this can be my full-time. Making things for the world. Making custom pieces and helping others find themselves.
Here's what I want you to take from this, especially if you're a woman, especially if you're Black: do the things. Set the boundaries. Advocate for yourself. And don't let NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, hold you back.
Life is not perfect. I'm tired of social media making everyone's life look pristine. We all have troubles, and I want to be transparent about mine.
Love Always,
