Pouring Into Myself, Boundaries, and Advocating for My Body

Hey y'all!!
Summer is almost over and the kids are heading back to school. It's giving "we free" but we really ain't lol. Y'all know how it is. Yellin "Free Parents till its backwards!!"

So my birthday came and went. And I didn't do a thing. Which is weird, because I get all excited for my birthday like I think I'm supposed to, and then it just... flops. Every time. Is this life now? Getting older and just acting like it's not important anymore? I hate it here. I love birthdays. I love celebrations. But I'm starting to realize the same effort I pour into everybody else ain't being poured back into me. So that's changing. I need to start pouring that energy into myself, for real this time.
That's also got me thinking about how I run my business. I need to be more stern about how I take orders — starting with payment first. This is costing me in the long run. I have taken so many orders, dedicated my time, my materials, my energy, and then people just stop communicating. Or they never come through with payment at all. That stops now. Sometimes we gotta be real with ourselves about where we contribute to our own problems. I'm not turning anybody away, but I am protecting my time and my peace going forward.
Life, especially right now, is draining. Financially, mentally, emotionally. It's tough out here. But we still have to set boundaries and keep them — despite who don't like it. In every area of our life. Because our peace is literally our health.
Which brings me to advocating for myself.
Since I had my youngest three years ago, my periods have been painful. Long. Random. Heavy. My tubes are tied, and I have zero desire to have any more kids — hell, my last delivery almost killed me. Literally. We both would have died if I hadn't fought to get that c-section as soon as I could. I've been back on Depo to manage and regulate the pain. I stopped it because it was wrecking my skin, but I finally got an OBGYN to actually listen to me. Turns out I developed endometriosis in my late 30s, after three kids. I have surgery scheduled for December.
I'm so glad I did my own research and didn't stop bringing it up until somebody finally heard me. As a Black woman, this is sadly the reality a lot of us live in — but please, please don't give up on yourselves. We know our own bodies better than anybody in a coat with a degree. Keep pushing until you're heard.
With that said — if you've got a custom order in mind, please get it in sooner rather than later. I don't want to turn anybody away, but I have to let my body heal. My kids deserve a healthy, happy mom. Hell, I deserve a healthy, happy Brea. That's it. That's all.
