Hey y’all! If you’ve been hanging around here for a while, you know my golden rule: Stop saving your "good" materials for a special occasion. Use the pretty leather. Cut into the glitter sheets. Life is the special occasion!

Well, I took my own advice this week while working with some gorgeous faux leather on my Cricut. And while things didn’t go exactly according to plan, the results were even better than a "perfect" project.

The Perfect Date: Crafting with my Daughter

I started the week making two custom hairbows for my daughter. I’m telling you, the best part wasn't even the finished bows—it was the process.

I let her sit with me and help pick out the faux leather sheets and the bow designs. It was such a sweet moment of one-on-one connection. We didn’t have to go out and spend a dime; we just spent time together in my craft space, and she walked away with something she was proud to wear because she helped create it.

The Reality Check: The Superhero Bow Tie

Then, I moved on to the bow tie. Now, let’s be real—this one gave me a run for my money. I’m still playing with the measurements to get that "perfect" adult size, and it was a bit more difficult than I anticipated.

But remember what I said about using the good materials?

Since I was using my high-quality superhero-themed leather, I didn't want a single inch to go to waste. Even though the measurements weren't right for what I originally planned, they ended up being perfect for a toddler! Now my son has a custom superhero bow tie that he is obsessed with!

What I Learned This Week

The "Mistakes" are for the Kids: A measurement "fail" for an adult project is usually a "win" for a mini-me.

Quality Matters: Because I used my good materials, even the "trial run" looks high-end and durable.

Connection > Perfection: My daughter doesn't care if the cut lines were perfect; she cares that we made something together.

Are you still hoarding your favorite craft supplies for a "perfect" project? Take this as your sign to cut into them today!

Love Always,

Your Favorite Craftin Ass Blk Grl ✨️ 🫶🏿

PS. As promised here's a hair bow svg. Have fun with it!
