They Almost Took My Home. I Need You To Hear This.

I'm not about to sugarcoat this. Y'all know I don't do that.

We almost lost our home this week.

Not because we ain't trying. Not because we don't care. Because life got HEAVY — the way it's been getting heavy for everybody right now — and $628 turned into something that almost took everything we built.

We've been in this house almost 6 years come October. Six years. My kids grew up in these walls. We did holidays here, sick days here, late nights here. This ain't just a address. This is HOME. And I watched it almost get snatched from us over some numbers that never should've gotten this far.

Let me tell you what they don't tell you about facing eviction.

They don't tell you about the 2am math. When you're sitting there with your phone calculator trying to make something work that just won't work. They don't tell you how fast the notices come. How cold the language is. How the whole system is designed to make you feel like YOU failed — when really the economy been failing US for years and nobody wants to talk about it.

We owed $628.

We paid $1,521.66 today by 4pm to keep our home.

Almost triple. Let that sink in.

I held this in while it was happening because I was embarrassed. Because I got three kids and a whole business and I'm supposed to have it together, right? That's what they expect from us. Stay strong. Figure it out. Don't let 'em see you sweat.

But I'm TIRED of being quiet about hard things.

Because I know I'm not the only one. I know there's somebody reading this right now doing the same 2am math. Holding everything together and still feeling like you're failing. Sis — you are NOT failing. This economy is failing us. Housing is failing us. And we still showing up every single day anyway.

That's not weakness. That's us. That's Black women. That's mamas. That's hustlers who refuse to quit even when it's hard as hell.

We still here. We still standing. But I'd be lying if I said we ain't rebuilding right now.

So I'm asking. Real talk — if I've ever made you laugh, made you feel seen, made you something with my hands that meant something to you — pour back into me right now.
